Re: What boxes work with the GAMMA 2

Sorry wizz, I'm actually looking to buy a GC. I have 5400Z which I believe should work.

Re: What boxes work with the GAMMA 2

I read somewhere the orignal firmware works nicely. Until I can get my hand on a GC, I don't see myself buying another box.

If it has not been modded, ie it has never been dezedded and still has the standard firmware then you are laughing, if it has been modded then u will need to reload the standard firmware

My experience with G2:

Topfield3000cipro/2.06bfreecam, no glitches, occasional channel scrambled but comes good with box reset, DOES NOT auto-update card, works with smartwi card splitter

Topfield3200IR (licenced I2 softcam), no glitches, DOES auto-update card, DOES NOT work with smartwi card splitter

Humax 5400z unmodded,, no glitches, DOES auto-update card, DOES work with smartwi card splitter

Zinwell7000, does not recognise G2 in slot, but DOES recognise smartwi clientcardwhen G2 is in smartwi master, no glitches, DOES auto-update card when G2 is in smartwi master, obviously DOES work with smartwi card splitter

UEC720ixAurora, DOES auto-update card, DOES work with smartwi card splitter, occasional glitches, occassional chanel lock ups and channels dropping out of EPG and selection list

UEC910Aurora, exactly same behaviour as 720

Dreamax470, DOES auto-update card, DOES work with smartwi card splitter, often video glitches and audio cracks, every card read in fact, ie every ten seconds. Dion "sky" firmware is slightly more stable with G2 than Dreamax firmware but still glitchy. Incidently, this box performed flawlessly with a Selectv Gamma, but glitches with Austar gamma, both g1 and g2

In summary, out of all my boxes the now very old Humax is still the best, it never glitches, even when other boxes are accessing G2 in the smartwi, never locks up, never freezes and updates card both in slot or in smartwi, the topfield3000/206bfreecam comes a close second but unfortunatly wont update the card

Also be aware that most of these boxes if unmodded will run G2 very hot, blistering the chip. There are threads at austech and sats-general on how to modify some card readers to drop the voltage to prevent overheating your investment. Incidently, G1 and G2 run cool as cucumber in a smartwi

Hey,

With all your experience with all different box's im just wondering how is the channel listing on all these box's? for example when watching say FOX8 and you wanna check what else is on you browse the other channels using the menu so FOX8 is still showing...and when you reach the comedy channel you cant actually see whats on until you press the button... does this make sense?

cuz i like to keep it on one channel and still browse and check whats actually playing on other channels rather that having to change it to each channel...
do any of the above box's work like that also?

Thanks

Re: What boxes work with the GAMMA 2

none of my boxes can do that except the UECs. However the Zinwells and the Topfields show a couple of channels in the extended guide, usually 2 or 3 either side of the channel your watching, Iguide browsing without channel changing is a feature the third party box manufacturers (except UEC) havent seem keen to install in their firmware unfortunately
