Au$tar to change video encryption?
Hi guys,
prolly a stupid question, but if you dont ask you dont know. My cousin has a seller card which cost him $1000 with 80cm dish, strong STB and gets every channel of Au$tar, my question is im thinking about getting it but are there any plans of Au$tar to change their video encryption to what F0xtel has now? Also F0xtel are now advertising HD if this is the case will Au$tar be doing the same thing, if this is the case will the seller cards still work and just automatically receive the signal or will it remain the same?.. Any inputs and thought? Thanks guys Cheers! ![]() |

Re: Au$tar to change video encryption?
If it lasts 4-5 years it MAY be worth it, If it lasts 2 years, you have been ripped off.
In my opinion it will last maybe 2 years...I think $1000 is a lot to pay....two years for a fully subscribed service may only cost around $800ish. For me, I recommend sub-sharing. Its cheap and not as illegal ![]()

Its probably not illegal, just against what you signed in your contact....thats just a breach of contract.

I just went to au$ar website and picked out a package and the package with all channels including p0rn hehe $163.60, almost $2000 a year, how is $1000 not worth it? its already half price.. anyhoo just thought it would be good to get other people thoughts.. What if i got him down to $750, would that be a good price? haha Thanks for your inputs! |

Re: Au$tar to change video encryption?
$1000 is a rip off, Ive personally seen cards go for as low as $300, the strong is worth $140 max and a dish/lnb/cable/outlet $100 max, the clown who offered it is making an easy $450 for a couple hours work IMHO I cant see Austar changing encryption real soon. 1. They have approx 500k subscribers, most of these have older STBs that cannot be converted to NDS except the Flinders, now do the sums, lets say they get replacement nds stbs on the cheap for say $50 each, and 480k boxes have to be replaced, thats 24 million, plus the cost of the cards, say another 5 million. Now 29 million may not be a lot to a provider, but think of the headaches, most subs will involve a tech call out to replace the box, there goes another wad of cash, plus they couldnt just do it overnight, it would take months to organise that many tech call outs. During the "change over" they would have to pay both Irdeto and NDS licence fees, theres another wad of cash. And who knows what contractual obligation Austar has to Mindport/Irdeto, they may be "locked in" for the foreseeable future under contract. There may be a huge penalty from Mindport for breaking the contract. Is all the above worth it because of a few thousand pirate cards out there? Its not like the old days where the taxi drivers would offer you a card, the local newsagent had a packet of them under his counter etc. These cards are still hard to come by so I dont see Austar in any sort of panic yet, in fact they seem to be in 'official denial" no word on their website about piracy, or on Mindports website for that matter either. Mindport still claim their Irdeto system has not been compromised for three years, so thats real denial! Some people have said they will completely roll out V5.3 cards to kill them off, but that opens another can of worms and doesnt fix the problem. The fact that all the older boxes will have to have their firmware reversed to divorce the card they are currently married to will be a pain for them. And even V5 only providers such as UBI have gammas available, they havent been able to kill them despite algo rolls, so what does Austar do? I reckon they will just ignore them for a while unless the code goes public
