It's Coming Boys and Girls... iPhone 3g

Quote:
After months of anticipation, the heavily rumored 3G iPhone was announced today during Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference Keynote.

"Just one year after launching the iPhone, we’re launching the new iPhone 3G that is twice as fast at half the price," said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. "iPhone 3G supports Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync right out of the box, runs the incredible third party apps created with the iPhone SDK, and will be available in more than 70 countries around the world this year."

Features
- 3G-capable. 2.8 times faster than EDGE.
- Simultaneous voice and data conections
- Microsoft Exchange AcctiveSync
- GPS built-in
- Better battery life - 300 hours of standby, Talk-time 10 hours (as opposed to 5) on 2G networks, 5 hours of 3G talk-time (competition is 3 hour 3G talk time), 5 to 6 hours of high-speed browsing, 7 hours of video, 24 hours of audio.
- flush headphone jack

Pricing and Availability
The iPhone 3G will be available July 11th in 22 countries for $199 for 8 GB and $299 for 16 GB. The 16 GB model also comes in white. Apple has posted details on their website, but it is currently overwhelmed.

Re: iPHONE - 11th July

im excited

definitly getting one on launch day.
pre-ordered my spot in line for 100 bucks even. lol

few things i am still waiting on answers on
- is it locked to vodaphone or optus
- pricing with both carriers
- data plans? unlimted?

im betting it will either be 399-499 outright no contract, unlocked.
or free on a 24 month plan
maybe 200 on a 12 month plan

Re: iPHONE - 11th July

here is a link to some leaked optus plans that where released
not sure if they are real or not, but im disappointed if they are.

Update: Optus iPhone Pricing Details "Wrong" | Gizmodo Australia
(edit, they have been confirmed wrong now)

i wish the new iphone has video talk with a front facing camera, but its good without it anyway.

the battery life looks very good aswell, i will be getting one on launch day hopefully.

Re: iPHONE - 11th July

im really not sure whether i want a say 49 cap over 2 years or buy it outright.
2yr's is a long time to be stuck with the carrier.
ive got an ipod touch 16gb i would sell, so that would offset a bit of the price

both optus and vodafone have interest pages up

Vodafone iPhone Pre-registration

CustomerConnect - Register your interest

the optus one is a $100 fully refundable jump the que fee.

btw. welcome to the forum JRex.

Re: iPHONE - 11th July

guys please be aware the the 299 prices is usd and refers to a 24 month contract and is locked to at&t.

To give you an idea the currently iphone sells unlocked retail in europe for 750 euro
so my expectation would be significantly higher than 500
expect the 1000+ for and outright unlocked phone
