Go, you various good things
Quoted in Peter Fitzsimons column:
Anthony Mundine: "There's no salary cap on workers, for a plumber or a
carpenter or a builder. A worker should get what he's worth. There
should be no salary cap. There should be private ownership, and they
[the players] should get what they're worth. The game is making
millions, tens of millions of dollars, off their names. Where is the
loyalty from the NRL to the players? There is no loyalty."
Go, you bloody awesome good thing, you!
Andrew Johns on how to fix rugby league: "Cut the NRL to 12 teams,
reduce the number of clubs in Sydney and expand the game back to Perth
and Adelaide to make it a truly national competition. That is the only
way we are going to be able to increase revenue through television and
gates to the point where clubs will be able to compete with the
massive money on offer in the English Super League and rugby union."
Good to see that Andrew Johns really has a brain after all, and that
he has started to use it.

$4 million salary cap times 16 teams is $64 million. Or, to put it into
boxer parlance, tens of millions.

It should say Andrew Johns on how to fix the NRL. Rugby League is safe, the
NRL is shaky.

Fittler was calling for less Sydney teams the other day. He's right. The
Roosters should be the first to go.

Go you bloody good thing, Bunny. Cutting clubs is not the answer - the
cut from 20 clubs to 16 has removed 16 million per annum from the
game, and with it a shitload of players. Bring back Perth and
Adelaide, add the Central Coast and a second Brisbane or Sunshine
Coast team at least, and let Sydney clubs move to new areas or go
broke. I'm sure a central Qld side would go well.

Yes and the Sharks should be tucked in their slipstream

Yes Mike, all nice in theory, but the Storm have proven that it just won't
work.
10 years, 2 premierships, multiple semis and they can still only draw
average
crowds of ex pat Kiwis who can't find a decent game of Rugby in Bleaktown.
How little people in Melbourne know about RL and the Storm is embarassing.
You should attend a game when your next in Melbourne.
There's no 'vision', there's no 'pot of gold' there's no chance of a real
National
competition, where you have a very peculiar footy demographic, such as those
that exist in 'colonies' like WA and SA.
Andrew Johns couldn't find toilet paper without assistance, let alone spruik
about
revenues and self - funding.
Find some original thought Mike and stop re-cycling 'Ribot Vision'. On the
other hand
it may be early onset dementure, in which case I apologise

And yet we have the Sharks, in the comp since 1967 - NO premierships, and
they still have trouble pulling a crowd on a saturday night when their team
has rolled the previous years premiers and runners up. How may the Tigers
pulling? Canterbury? Easts? Manly? Penrith? Parramatta? St George? Souths?
The answer is to cut teams from Sydney - you don't have a right to have a
club in the NRL - get out and support your club, and maybe they should
survive. If you want to sit at home and not get out there, don't cry when
your team is cut.

You need to develop the game in those places, you cannot expect their teams
to be a force and to bring crowds in, in their first five years.

Druggo - he can say nothing that will make me sit up and listen (and I am in
a big amount of people who believe the same).

Absolute bollocks. Piss the Rossters off. They're the only team that should
be cut. Why would anyone go to the football when it's on tv live and you
can go to the pub in the middle of winter and watch the game with beer $2
cheaper and served in glass? What sort of absolute moron would actually
attend a game? Brisbane get good crowds because there's only one team in
Brisbane and the weather is much warmer. How would Brisbane go with 2 or 3
teams? It's also much warmer in Brisbane than it is in Sydney. There was no
way I was going to the footy last night. The solution is to stop scheduling
6 games games at night. Only 2 day games and they're both on a Sunday.
People want to watch football during the day. It's ****ing stupid that all
the semis are played at night and the GF is played in the day, as it will
be at 5pm this year won't it? Go back to one Friday night game, 1 Saturday
day game, 2 Saturday night games, 3 Sunday afternoon games and 1 Monday
night game. That's 4 day and 4 night. Don't show them all live, the reason
the crowds are so shit is they show every game live at the local except for
the Sunday arvo 3pm game. More day games means more crowds.

You're right ruud, but we keep hearing about tradition coming out of Sydney
and people losing their identity if they lose their club. Now that is
BOLLOCKS. Get over it.
You make a good point re day games, and I reckon you are right. But, nine
has too big a say in the game. One game friday night or if they are to play
two, have the first one start early and the other start at a reasonable
time - so that people can get the chance to wacth both and not have to stay
up til midnight or lose interest and just check the net. Maybe have Auckland
play at home friday nights, if they insist on 2 games on friday. The rest is
right, inlcluding a DAY grand final. How would Brisbane go with 3 clubs?
Well thankfully the NRL sees the wisdom of not. The Rooters should be cut,
as should the Sharks, that makes it 14 - I can live with that. The problem
though, is that too many people think of the fallout now, and not the
support or tradition that will exist in 30 years time.
Maybe live games should not be shown within say 200 k's of the city where
they play.
