ABC Radio has *really* lost the plot
Just got ABC Radio playing in the background at midnight (Qld time).
They're *still* advertising programmes that finished a couple of hours
ago -- notably this evening's NRL footy game Cowboys V Eels (which the
Cowboys won easily, in case you haven't heard .
Frankly, I think it's time they sold off the whole bloody network. As
the source of unbiased information it was 50 years ago, it's finished.
Now all that's left is never-ending trivial pursuit games, the blind
leading the ignorant talkback sessions, and incompetent programming.
Truly a sad end to a formerly great Aussie institution.
Guess I'll have to buy a new wireless. After 50 years tuned to the
local ABC station I don't expect the tuning vanes will still work.
Cheers, Phred.

Someone phucked up by not removing a cart that was expired. This
happens on commercial stations too, so "selling off the whole bloody
network" would not help.
How many times did you hear this message after the ending of the game?

I'll have to take your word for that. I haven't listened to a
commercial station of my own volition since I "had" to listen to the
Labor station (4KQ) in Brisbane after the ABC had closed down for the
night years ago. (I might add that 4KQ in those days had nothing like
the biases demonstrated by our so-called "independent" ABC now days.)
>How many times did you hear this message after the ending of the game?
Dunno. I wasn't listening closely, but *once* was bad enough because
they do this sort of thing quite commonly these days. Once upon a
time they had some pride in doing a good job; now the journalists just
have pride.
Cheers, Phred.

I guess it's the same there as in WA - there is Radio National, ABC FM,
JJJ and whatever the other one is called. It was originally 6WF
(Wesfarmers) in WA. That ABC station sounds like the one you are talking
about, it used to be good but some years ago it changed to endless
talkback and quiz shows. I never listened to it again, but it is more
similar to commercial stations which appeal to many.
That's the problem for the ABC - be popular or be good. It's hard to
please everyone by doing both simultaneously.
Radio National replays many shows, it's helpful for people who like a
particular show but it's on at an unsuitable time for them.

The worst offenders being Macquarie Radio Network now Fairfax Radio.
