Philips DVD player at Good Guys: can you FF/RW using the remote withUSB drive?

Hi all,

On the last page of the most recent Good Guys catalogue is a $59 Philips
DVD player. Among other things it can play media files from USB drives.
I want to know if anyone has any experience with this player and if I
can use the remote to fast forward and rewind media being played from
the USB drive. I ask because I'd like to use it to watch my uni lectures
on, and I often need to fast forward or rewind to fill in details I
didn't register from other parts of the lecture. I'll be checking it out
with a usb drive this weekend, but any info first would be helpful -
particularly about MP4 files and quicktime files, two of the formats
that my uni is now using regularly.

TIA,

Ari

I don't see why it wouldn't. I've been using the 360 for the same purpose since I bought
it, much quicker to drop a few xvid/divx files on to a USB drive than to burn an RW. One
thing I've noticed though is the FF and RW is very jerky from the USB drive, not that it
matters much.

That'll be the best thing, load up the USB drive with all the different formats you'll be
using and test it.

Let us know how it goes.

I haven't been able to get in to test it, and it looks like I'm going to
scrap the plan and put the cash towards a Dell netbook when they're
released later this month.

An even better way is to network your 360 with your PC. You then download Media
Player 11 and configure it to share your video collection on the PC's hard disc.
Then when you run the 360 and go to the media section, select videos, it should
pick up the collection. Voila, instant movie library.
