Re: Tevion DVD recorder (Aldi)

I am never touching ALDI "specials" again. After fiddling with this item
for 12months , I give up. It is a pile of rubbish.
And ALDI have gone down so far in my estimation. The store manager
assured that they NEVER have any trouble with any of their electronic
items. Which assured me enough to fork out the $229 for this worthless
pile of junk.
Will be on eBay soon , as it is too late to take it back, assuming ALDI
would even take it back.
Will start at $5 to cover ebay costs. Might make a good spare or
doorstop for someone.

Mine worked just fine. But I had similar problems with the previous DVD
recorder, which from memory was Panasonic. I could simply never get it
to do what I wanted, which the Aldi machine did first time. Them's the
breaks I guess.

I believe I bought the first model released, $176 IIRC, and I agree that it
is terrible.

Tho the manual says the channels can be renamed, they can't, and the Aldi
technician confirmed that this renaming was deliberately suppressed.

The timer on my machine is extremely erratic; it often does not record the
right channel as per timer dialogue box.
I did connect it to a set top box to control this, but if I set the timer to
record a channel via the Aldi tuner, it records instead the STU channel.

I was using it in my lounge room as a back up unit, but it is now relegated
to my study, where I still have a very minor use for it.

Why do they do shit like that? It's like my Telstra Motorola V9 mobile. It has
features disabled that models sold by other telcos have operational.

Damned annoying, it is...

You can modify the firmware and remove the Telstra shit branding. I
did that with my V3xx and its now got more functionality.
