Problem With Playing DVDs - Help Requested Please
I have been scratching my head over this problem:-
My friend and I both have a Highlander DVD player.
I have never had a problem with mine. It plays just about everything you
throw at it including DIVX and burnt copies, etc.
However, my pal's problem is as follows:-
It plays DIVX and burnt copies OK. It plays most DVDs OK, but with others it
plays, the sound is whacky - You can hear the background sounds on some and
speech sound is extremely low, even at full volume. On others you can hear
the background sounds but no speech sound at all. All DVDs played are
genuine R4 and range from early ones to latest ones. The DVDs with fault
problems have all been tested in another player and all play perfectly. It
is driving me (and my pal) crazy, as there doesn't appear to be any logic
behind the problem.
Has anyone out there experienced similar problems and if so, did you manage
to overcome the problem?.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Maybe your friend needs to check his sound settings on the player? Stuff
that's DivX is probably mixed in stereo where a lot of the DVDs are in
5.1 Dolby or DTS sound. If he's only got stereo speakers, set the player
to downmix 5.1 to stereo. If he's got a surround sound setup, then check
the DVD player's sound profile (reverb, echo, concert hall/live/etc) and
see if that fixes anything...

Not a very helpful comment.
I have had my Highlander for about 3 years and never had as much as a
hiccup. Paid about $39 for it.
Thanks anyway.

Thanks for that Danny. Will do as you kindly suggested and let this group
know the outcome.
