I use a teflon tape over the pads in the first instant, then they don't
wear at all.

I had a Microsoft keyboard before it and it lost its letters even worse than the Logitech did.

AND the arseholes at Microsoft tried to claim that that wasnt covered by the 3 year warranty too.

I decided to **** them over in the small claims court on that but
left it till the last minute and then managed to cripple myself in
the last few days of the warranty so couldnt actually do that.

I did check with Logitech before buying one of theirs that the letters are
covered by the warranty, and just checked it again recently that it is still
covered by the warranty even now with new keyboards bought today.

> I'm just steering away from Logitech for keyboards these days, though.

More fool you when they are covered by the warranty and Microsoft doesnt.

And one problem with the fancier mice is that buttons arent all in the same place
so you get used to a particular mouse and dont like to change from its layout etc.

> Just a shame to throw it out because the feet pads have worn out

Stupid having different feet on each model tho.

Yeah, some of them have just the right mix of design features.

The big advantage with the MX700 is that you drop it into the charging
garage to charge it, no farting around with batterys, the batterys are
standard AA NiMH for when they wear out eventually, and the battery
low light comes on very early so you can still use it all day with the low
light flashing if you forget to charge it and just charge it that night.

True.

> I've probably spent hours more hours than I care to admit fixing mine.... because I liked it.

I havent had to do any fixing. Just made the one warranty claim after 5 years
when one of the buttons appeared to get some grit or something in it so it
would occassionally need a bit more of a press to get the button action.

Just bought a few more for about 10% of the original RRP so they should last me forever now.

Yeah, I didn't realise Logitech's warranty actually covered faded
letters. This Microsoft one seems to be keeping the lettering alright so
far, though.

I have two here. One's a spare since the missus got herself a wireless (MS)
keyboard and mouse. Both are fine and are around 5 years old now.

Cleaning up at work recently, I found an original IBM keyboard. It has a ps/2
connector on it, but has the same feel as the ones that were called "AT"
keyboards. Significantly tactile they have this robust feel to them. Not sure
how they are ergonomically compared to more modern keyboards, though. And as
you'd expect it doesn't have the extra Windows related keys.

I use a Post Office internet kb. Has been cleaned a few times with metho
(between snorts) No probs with the lettering. Also a good old MS balled
wheel mouse, which I prefer to SWMBO's optical job. Guess me & change take a
while to get together. I remember the original IBM XT kb, needed a crane to
move the bugger was literaly built like a brick outhouse..
