Road Rage, anyone? - Why?
Here ya go, troops.
http://www.nature.com/news/2008/0806....2008.889.html
We may have an answer involving something other than provocation *by*
Stupids.
The Stupids are actually able to be 'defined' successfully.
I guess many readers will have this stuff already figured from simple
observation, of course, but the concepts of public and private space are
interesting.

I think ...
"In humans, as in many other species, overcrowding leads to increased
territorial aggression, and the team suspected that this was what was
happening on the roads."
It's true. I'm not aggresive on the road, I simply avoid the whole
thing including driving unless I have to.
In my case I simply can't deal with other folk in my way.
I simply avoid it. Supermarket queues, stupid drivers blocking
a left hand turn arrow, being in crowds - I don't get abusive
about it, however makes me feel angry. In my imagination I
belt them over the head with a baseball bat.
Rats in a cage .... rats in a cage.

Road rage is usually caused by frustration. In days of old when we had
a choice of which road to use if we got held up it was our fault for
picking the wrong road. Now we are funneled to our destination like
pavlov's dogs into roads with so many lights, cameras, signs,up down
speeds, school zones etc. The back roads are a constant irritant full of
"traffic calming" contraptions which have the effect of frustration [and
wear out the vehicle]. We have no control individually anymore. When an
other being gets in our way or otherwise annoys us we sometimes explode

Simple solutions follow:
1: Seek help.
2: Move out of the city and take up residence in some remote part of the
country away from other people.
3: Check out quietly and leave the world to people who can handle it.

Lock in #2, Eddie.
I could not care less if I saw another human, unless on TV, or
text based email. Cell 'phone I don't really like either unless
SMS.
Newsgroups are enough for me.

You keep saying this sort of stuff.
Correct me I'm wrong, but don't you live in Sydney - in an apartment?
If so, why the **** are you there - and why don't you live out in at
least a country town? 'work commitments' very rarely holds water with me
as an excuse not to be able to escape the rat race, so don't try that
one on me

Yes. The blindingly obvious problem that no-one wants to touch with a
barge-pole.
We could invent a 100% pollution free forms of energy, food and housing
tomorrow - but that won't solve the ultimate problems we face. In fact,
it'll probably only exacerbate them by increasing the population.
