Mitsbishi 380 hire vehicle.
Just returned from Cairns with a mate in a hired 380 and I have to inform
you all I was pleasantly surprised with the comfort levels of this car.
Even more so, the fuel economy was unbelievable, so much so, I had to
recheck and recheck the figures as we went.
Total Kilometeres travelled 2320. Fuel purchased back to the hire company in
Rocky - refilled 185.6 litres. This represented 12.5 klms per litre or
8litres per 100klms which I'm sure you will all agree this is an exceptional
figure given the high power of the 380. Admittedly, only about 150klms was
"around town" driving.
I'm sure Mitsubishi had a great car with the 380 and more's the pity we are
seeing the demise of this vehicle. I know most of you will bag this post but
being true to form, most of you also probably have never even sat in one let
alone driven one and yet will pass judgement on me for posting what is an
honest post.

no surprise there, the 380 was an excellent vehicle in regards to value for
money, unfortunately it had perception problems in Australia as just another
Magna (with all the negative connotations) and that made it about as popular
as a turd in a swimming pool.
A mate owned on (salary sacrifice) and we took it to shitney a couple of
times, complete with 5 boofy blokes and luggage without a drama and in
relative comfort. Fortunately his lease ran out before the announcement of
the death of the 380 and he now has an Aurion, His words when comparing the
two "Chalk and Cheese" while the Aurion may be no bigger of powerful the fit
and finish between the two is glaring.
As to your claims of good fuel economy, a 6L Commy will return 10l/100k
highway and has far more power than the 380.
Would I own a 380, probably not, but at least I have driven one and sat in
one on many occasions and I know people who have owned them long term, not
just a rental and they would never go back to them.
I know you will just think this is a typical 380 bashing post but hell, who
cares what others think :-)

Sorry, I don't agree with that being exceptional. My 97 V6
Calais usually runs in the mid 7's per 100km for highway
driving. Unfortunately city isn't quite as flash - it gets
up into the 12/13's.

Crikey. On those figures the cost of ownership would be better than a Prius.

The problem with the 380 wan't the car, although from reports I've heard from
owners it isn't anything out of the box. The problem with the 380 was
Mitsubishi.
Maybe they should have marketed it as a competitor to the Pryarse. You know,
"cheaper to own than Prius and much bigger inside".

My AUIII Falcon along with many other AUIII's, does far better than 8 ltr
per 100km, and it has done that, more than once :-) (better power to
weight ratio)
However, if you wish to buy a Magna 380, they are DIRT cheap and in
plentiful supply! Maybe a good idea to buy two, one for sape parts :-)

I know quite a few in the industy with 380's as work vehicles (reps) and out
of 6 guys who drive them, only one hates it. When asked to elaborate, on
more than one occasion, all he could say was "Mitsubishi", which in itself,
says quite a lot about Mitsubishi's perspective. However, I'm with you and
consider thjem to be not a bad vehicle at all and those fugures are quite
good considering the shitty terrain up that way.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It is compared to your Civic hybrid. This two-year old 380 is selling for
$15.7k:
( http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars..._id=0&trecs=38)
How much did you pay for your stupid Civic hybrid: was it $35k driveaway? I
challenge you to save $19k of petrol in the next three years over this
380!!!!
Yep, many people are incapable of expressing an opinion if they feel
it's at odds with their peers.
If they never sold, how can they be in plentiful supply?
